The sub isn’t the issue for me…I already have one as part of my recovery system. It is mathematically true and correct…but who cares at that point.Īs long as you still have your car or son or buried in the yard or wherever you’ve hidden the paper copy…you can recover from this problem…and without paper someplace you can’t recover from the problem anyway if you lose all devices…because nobody is remembering their secret key. Once you choose a master password and DB password that give you security for centuries using a massive offline cracking scenario as illustrated by Steve Gibson’s Haystacks page…the fact that you could do something to increase the time from 10,000 centuries to a million of them is completely irrelevant. Using DB means that 2 services have to be compromised instead of 1 which is more secure to me…and in any event better security is the enemy of good enough security. That sounds like BS to force you to sub…the algorithm that uses both could easily run locally…it’s just computer code. They claim that their master password and Secret Key combo is more secure than DropBox and master password…and that’s why they can’t support non sub accounts. Alternatively…my DropBox folder gets backed up in several places so as long as one of those is available I can use my new iPhone to recover.Įven with the sub…you still need to get something to your survivors…in my case it’s a hard copy of the recovery key and a hard copy of password manager, device, and computer passwords that he has in his safe. At that point…I would have to pullout my own piece of paper. You still have a chicken and egg issue though…you need both your master password and the long and non-rememberable secret key to get in. The chances of losing all devices, all my wife’s devices, and the paper copy our son has of the 5 of 6 passwords that get to the rest is pretty low. I have a sub as well…but my main vault is on DropBox and their copy is a backup. I just don’t think that a large number of users even need a PW manager beyond what Safari provides (present company excluded, of course), and overall security that Apple continues to improve. etc.īest of luck to whoever owns 1Password now. Continues through schemes involving recovery with BackBlaze backups, etc. Starts with shared files in iCloud, encrypted and password protected of course. I’m also happy for local storage and an outright purchase.įor my real bucket list (“Here’s what to do if I die”) I’m working, while consulting Kissell’s book, of course, on a variety of methods to maintain a chain for recovery in the event of various disasters. Family sharing = useless due to empty nest and impossibility of getting spouse to use a password manager (making slow progress with Safari passwords/keychain)Įnpass meets my needs and I’ve been surprised how good it is.Ceaseless cutesy icons and breezy air = somewhat nauseating.Java “app” written for platform universality vice Mac specific program = bad.Cloud only storage with no local files = bad.I started with 1Password4 in 2014 and never thought I’d change but now it’s time to move away. Today my annual rent was due for 1Password7. I would like to see them provide some type of off-the-grid, break-glass functionality like this. There’s no reason we can’t have both cloud advantages and independence but 1P would have to accommodate. Now, none of this implies that 1P couldn’t or shouldn’t use an open database format that could also be backed up locally. You’ll quickly pay the subscription fee.īy using their hosted product, I only need a web browser and my 1Password credentials to bootstrap. Try documenting the process for your loved ones. What if I lose all my devices? What if I’m gone someday and my family has to figure out how to get into things? (See the “Digital Legacy” book). But that’s not a good disaster recovery policy. Normally I could fetch the Dropbox password from another device already using 1Password. But my Dropbox password was in 1Password. I couldn’t get 1Password running until I got Dropbox running. It finally hit me after setting up some new devices that I was dealing with a chicken and egg problem. But I have lost more data while “rolling my own” than I ever did in the cloud.īut there’s another, key reason I finally moved my 1Password database from Dropbox to. I don’t like paying subscription fees or trusting others with my data.

I have a good amount of experience with that tool. I had high expectations that the Fein would do very well in this test. What this means is that you can expect even better performance all around if you take our tests and results and substitute a superior quality accessory blade. While not stellar in terms of quality, they were OIS-compatible and allowed us to test all of the tools without having to insert any adapters. For these tests I used Porter-Cable blades. After a few jobs you’re going to have to go shopping for a blade, and so a tool review based on the included blade is all but worthless if you want to know about the actual tool’s performance. You have to ensure that your setup is designed to test the tool and not the accessory. The Testing Systemīuilding a testing methodology that’s fair and effective is no small challenge. For this test I grabbed some pieces of 90-year-old heart pine flooring and went to work to discover which model woudl be the best cordless oscillating multi-tool in this category. The problem is, with older floors-the kind I most often run into-you’re dealing with heart pine or even oak which presents a significant cutting challenge if you’re doing more than just punching out a couple of slots. When you need to cut out a floor register, or cut in an area to replace with plywood for laying tile, an oscillating multi-tool is a very handy tool to have around. There’s nothing quite like plunge-cutting into hardwood floors. Test 1: Best Cordless Oscillating Multi-tools for Hard Wood Cutting Most of the tools also come in kits, but Ridgid’s JobMax and Porter-Cable’s 20V Max tools currently only fly solo, allowing you to add them into your collection at a much lower cost of entry. Excepting the Bosch MXH180BL and the Fein Multimaster, all of the tools include a handy LED to illuminate the work area. They’re all 18V (nominal) models with the exception of the Fein MultiMaster, which is 14.4 (but certainly holds its own weight. Doing it any other way is simply not worth the hassle.Įvery one of the tools tested in this roundup article have many similar features, but also several unique details. It’s so significantly better at it than any manual or other power saw type that I’d happily go pick up a new multi-tool if I were in the middle of a job and my tool gave out. I’ve cut dozens of door jambs out in the course of laying tile or wood flooring, and the oscillating multi-tool is always my go-to tool for this type of work. And I can’t forget my personal favorite-undercutting door jambs. That could be cutting into a pipe that doesn’t have a lot of lateral clearance, or it could be slicing a nice vertical cut into a piece of baseboard moulding. When you need a cordless multi-tool, it’s likely because nothing else will do the job. I picked up the Bosch MXH180BL, Fein MultiMaster AFMM 14, Makita LXMT025, Milwaukee 2626-22, Porter-Cable PCCK510LA, Porter-Cable PCC710, Ridgid JobMax R862004, and the DeWalt DCS355D1.įinding the best cordless oscillating multi-tools today is important for a variety of reasons. I won’t give it away, but it involves getting every model you can get your hands on and running them head-to-head through a battery of tests. How do you test and compare 18V cordless oscillating multi-tools? Now, your full-size cordless oscillating multi-tool will easily deliver over a half hour of work-on the low side. With most 12V cordless multi-tools, run-time was measured in the 10 minute range or less. For starters, these new tools boast incredible run times. Today’s cordless multi-tools have come a long way, and the current crop of 18 volt(ish) models are more than a little impressive. At the time, finding the best cordless oscillating multi-tools was a pipe dream-cordless multi-tools were just starting to hit the market-and most of those new models were of the 12V variety. It was one of my earliest comparison articles and remains popular with those looking to check out what’s available in the realm of corded multi-tools. Pro Tool Reviews did its first corded oscillating multi tools comparison shootout back in 2009. A well-thought-out position and technology allow the most efficient use of workshop premises. As a result of this type of frying, finished products are prepared quickly as well. The total amount of oil needed is 25-40% less than the amount needed for deep frying. This fryer uses significantly less oil (oil is only needed to coat the food no deep frying is needed) and is a much healthier frying process. Thanks to this system, the oil volume is automatically maintained at a certain set level.Īdvantages of the industrial continuous deep fryer: The fryer is also equipped with an oil level maintenance system. Thanks to this innovative heat exchanger, the oil cools down quickly after frying. The circulation of oil between the product and the heat exchangers, where the oil is only heated for a few seconds, prevents the formation of harmful carcinogenic substances in the oil. The plant is additionally equipped with an oil circulation system. At the same time, it allows you to fry several different types of food in the same appliance simply by changing the parameters. The oil control system helps you set the optimal frying conditions for your product. The OilDeep fryer is equipped with a feed control system that allows you to individually adjust the oil flow and parameters such as feed rate, optimal oil level, the volume of oil and its temperature. Continuous oil filtration system extends the oil lifespan. The continuous oil filtration system can significantly reduce the frequency of oil changes, which is cost effective and also reflects in the final products. The Deep Fryer is equipped with an oil filtration system that continuously filters the oil inside the fryer to prevent small pieces of burnt food from accumulating inside and resulting in quality degradation. The use of the device leads to excellent quality of end products good for their easy digestion.By using this deep fryer, you will be able to achieve a uniform and homogeneous appearance of the final product, the surface of which will be golden brown. The higher quality of fried foods has a positive effect on taste and smell.Advantages of the Oil Deep Continuous Fryer: Thanks to this oil coating system, foods consume significantly less oil and are healthier than deep-fried foods. My own experience with multiple caption streams for the same show (e.g. The two caption streams may have also been produced at different times by different companies. Each captioner had no knowledge of the other’s work. Given the marked differences in timecodes for individual captions and my own recent conversations with professional closed captioners, I think it’s safe to say that these two caption files were produced by different captioners, at the very least. I’d welcome input from professional closed captioners on this. So how do we explain these differences? Well, it’s hard to know for sure from this removed vantage point. (I moved the closed caption stream to the top of the video so it wouldn’t overlap with the subtitle stream.) Putting both streams together into the same video helps to illustrate the differences. Because there doesn’t appear to be a good reason to edit speech in this case, and because caption viewers deserve access to characters’ full names, both streams should have included verbatim speech and spelled out Leeloo’s full name. the stream intended for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers - doesn’t caption Leeloo’s full name. I find the contrasts between these two versions of the official captions puzzling: The speech-only version doesn’t present speech verbatim, while the full version (speech + non-speech) - i.e. Edited captions and short descriptions make little sense here. Put simply, the scene is an introduction and introductions need names. (The full name is surprisingly popular, which is one more reason why it should have been captioned fully.) Willis puts special emphasis on Leeloo’s full name when he refers to it colorfully as “that whole thing.” (In the subtitled version, this is unfortunately summarized as “All that’s your name?”) Caption viewers deserve access to “that whole thing” so they can experience it for themselves. Major characters’ names are always important, regardless of length or familiarity. Would anything short of the fully captioned name work in this case? Probably not. But that’s not an unknown language, it’s her name! While the closed captioned version below includes verbatim speech (unlike the subtitled version above), it cops out on Leeloo’s full name, opting instead for an unhelpful non-speech caption. The official DVD of The Fifth Element contains two caption streams: a bitmap stream of speech-only subtitles (the video example above), and a text stream of full closed captions (in which all significant sounds are supposed to be captioned, both speech and non-speech). Seeing the full name spelled out in all its hyphenated glory is one of the highlights of the captioned viewing experience: Leeloo Minai Lekarariba-Laminai-Tchai Ekbat De Sebat. Jovovich’s quick, monotone delivery is hilarious. Willis’ comedic timing is, as always, delightful. In the video, Clive shows off a few different kinds of fluorescent bulbs that are available cheaply on eBay that generate different kinds of UV light.Īround this same time, someone at the office was getting rid of a small fluorescent inspection light. The fluorescent bulbs that are designed to radiate UV-C have to be made from quartz glass just so the light can get out normal glass tends to be fairly opaque to UV-C. It's not a problem for us in nature because it can't penetrate the atmosphere to reach us from the sun. UV-C is used for sterilization in air and water circulation systems, and can cause skin burns and eye damage. And then there's UV-C at 100-280nm, which is kind of nasty. Next is UV-B at 280-315nm, which is the kind that's largely responsible for sunburn (and, not surprisingly, is the kind of UV generated by tanning lamps). The first is UV-A at 315-400nm, which is not particularly harmful and is the kind of radiation that makes up most "black light" effects. You see, as Clive explains in the video, UV light comes in a few different flavors. This had the unfortunate side effect of leaving many in attendance with sunburn and welder's om attending a fashion event. Big Clive relays the story of a HYPEBEAST event where an uninformed designer used UV-C lamps in a number of booth fixtures because of their admittedly very cool and futuristic, ghostly blue glow. Some of them are what you might traditionally call "black lights," but some of them are slightly more sinister. If you don't have half an hour to learn about the UV spectrum, I guess I don't blame you, but here is the gist of the video: There are a lot of different types of fluorescent lamps available online that are all labeled as "UV" lamps.
